中世貴族社会

クレオパトラの時代には、すでにビリヤードによく似た室内ゲームが存在した のではないかと言われているそうですが、ビリヤードの起源としては、各国の 主張がいろいろとあるなかで、14世紀頃のイギリス・フランスがその発祥地 であるとする資料が比較的多いということです。 14世紀、ビリヤードはヨーロッパの宮廷で流行し始め、ルイ１４世は医者に すすめられて、健康の為に始めたという記録が残っているそうです。 フランスのシャルル９世、ルイ16世、スコットランドのメリースチュアート、そして イギリスのジェ-ムズ1世などは特に熱狂的なプレイヤ-だったとされています。 ビリヤードは貴族的なスポーツとして、上流社会で人気があったようですね。

The History of Billiards

Several historical materials show billiards was born in U.K. and France in the 14th c, however many countries assert their cradle of billiards. It is said that Cleopatra played an indoor game similar to billiards, and LouisXIV began to play for his health at the recommendation of doctors. Many historical characters are known as a hustler, and billiards seems to have come into voguein the nobility in the middle ages anyway.
